A song of ice and fire marry black souls: Elden Ring could be the sequel to Dark Souls, word of George RR Martin
In addition to having in common with Dark Souls the FROM Software development team, Elden Ring it might as well be the canonical sequel. It was to declare it George R.R. Martin during an interview, before moving on to adaptation of the novel Who Fears Death? on the small screen. Regarding the video game, Martin (author of A Song of Ice and Fire, hence Game of Thrones/ Game of Thrones) talked about his work and frequent conversations with the development team. The presumed canonicity of this unexpected and unsuspected sequel, therefore, is not the only gem.
From Dark Souls to Elden Ring, the step to a sequel is short
In short, this is not the only nature of Elden Ring as a possible sequel to Dark Souls. George RR Martin’s work also wants its share, and the “Tolkien from overseas” recounted his duties for the project. His work has been over for some time, and consists of world-building that made his novels so captivating. However, Martin also came up with the game’s characters, whose design (as well as the look of the interfaces) is a subject of constant conversation with the development team. Below you can find a tweet from an account we know well.

In fact, this is “Mordecai”, the insider who told us well in advance of the debut of Elden Ring at the beginning of E3 2021. George RR Martin concluded the interview defining himself enthusiastic about how the project is coming up, finding us agree. We don’t know how reliable the definition of canonicity is as far as the complex lore of Dark Souls is concerned, but we certainly are faced with more concrete statements than the conjectural jumble surrounding the state of Abandoned. Either way, we will keep you updated.
