The Ferrari has undergone a hacker attack con ransom request for some contact details of its customers. The company immediately informed the competent authorities who are carrying out the investigation. “We do not give in to the ransom requests of criminals,” said the Maranello house.
Hacker attack on Ferrari, determined not to accept the ransom request
This is what is stated in the published press release. “In line with its company policy, Ferrari will not accept any redemption requests. Agreeing to such requests would fund criminal activity and allow threat actors to perpetuate their attacks.” This is how Ferrari comments on the hacker attack suffered, the worst so far.
The operational activity of the company, for the moment, has not been affected. The reason lies in the fact that the ransomware is aimed at the personal data leak of Maranello’s customers. It has been confirmed that customers have been notified of the incident and Ferrari is absolutely not willing to pay the ransom.
Among the data presented are names and surnames, addresses, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers. Information relating to payment data or the cars owned by individual customers have not been stolen.
The company launched “immediately an investigation in collaboration with a company of cybersicurezza world leader. Furthermore – he explains – we have informed the competent authorities and we are sure that they will do everything in their power in carrying out the investigations “. He then adds: “Ferrari takes the issue of customer confidentiality very seriously and understands the importance of what happened. We have partnered with experts to further strengthen our systems, whose robustness we are confident.”
The email sent to communicate the attack
Dear Ferrarista,
We regret to inform you of an IT incident that occurred at Ferrari, where a criminal entity was able to gain access to a limited number of systems in our IT environment: as part of this attack, some data relating to our customers was exposed, including names and surnames, addresses, e-mail addresses and telephone numbers. Your data may fall into this group. However, based on our investigations, no data relating to payment details, and/or bank account details and/or other confidential payment data, was stolen, nor data relating to Ferrari cars owned by customers or in order.
We have recently been contacted by a criminal entity with a ransom request regarding this customer data. It is its policy that Ferrari does not intend to submit to this type of blackmail, as agreeing to payment continues to finance criminal activities and allows these subjects to carry out their attacks. It also doesn’t actually change the data exposure.
Upon receipt of the ransom note, we initiated an investigation in collaboration with a leading external forensic investigation firm and confirmed the authenticity of the data. We have also notified the relevant authorities and are confident that they will investigate thoroughly according to the law.
We have worked and continue to work with third-party experts to further strengthen our systems and are confident in their resilience. We can also confirm that the breach had no impact on our company’s operations.
We take our customers’ privacy seriously and understand the significance of this incident, which is why we have informed you promptly.
If you wish to contact Ferrari for further information, please write to us by e-mail at [-] o [-]where a team will be able to assist you.
We would like to take this opportunity to offer our sincere apologies for what has happened and we assure you that we will do everything in our power to regain your trust.
