Recently, Square Enix revealed new information on Dawntrail (here is our review of Endwalker!), the fifth expansion of Final Fantasy XVI Online, its highly acclaimed MMO, whose release is scheduled for the summer of 2024. The main news of the announcement is the first new job arriving in Dawntrail: the “Viper”, with the double weapon. It was Naoki Yoshida, producer and director of the game, who made the announcement during his speech at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival 2023 in London, during which he also showed a new teaser trailer showing the Warrior of Light in action as of the new short-distance fighter. A gameplay trailer was also shown with the “Viper” in action, which you can find below. During the speech, the new series of alliance raids scheduled for the 7.x content cycle was also announced: Echoes of Vana’diel – a crossover series with Final Fantasy XI.
The new expansion will include a lot of new content, including an increased level cap, various new professions, new areas, new allied tribes, new dungeons and new battle content, such as FATE, hunts, treasure hunts, side missions and more . Some of the new content announced includes:
- New job – The “Viper”a close-range fighter that uses blades that can be combined into a single two-handed weapon.

- New areas – The tropical Kozama’uka region, rich in rivers, streams and waterfalls, and the arid Shaaloani region, with vast rain-hungry plains on which a railway is being built.
- New Allied Tribe – The Moblinsa people who inhabit the jungles of Kozama’uka, much like the goblins with whom they share common ancestors.
- New Threats – Eliminator
- New Alliance Raid – Echoes of Vana’diel – a crossover series with Final Fantasy XI.
- New Craft Limited – Scheduled for the second half of the 7.x patch series.

In addition to these new features, with Dawntrail The game’s first graphics update will also arriveboth for characters and the world, including improvements to the aesthetics of the game, higher resolution textures and shadows, and improved material quality.
Yoshida also announced new details on the content planned for the 6.x patch series, in preparation for the arrival of Dawntrail.
