Ford tests new Connected Traffic Light Technology for intelligent traffic lights
Martin Sommer, research engineer, Automated Driving Europe, Ford of Europepoints out: Whether it’s a fire engine that intervenes in a fire or an ambulance that goes to the scene of an accident, the last thing you want is for rescuers to get stuck among other vehicles waiting at traffic lights ”
The intelligent traffic light system Ford is working on would be enabled to provide information on the timing of red and green lights to other vehicles. This could improve the flow of traffic for all road users. This is a pilot project which is part of a more complex initiative which aims to verify the potential of vehicles and related infrastructures.

Ford has been testing the technology for about two years in the city of Aachen within the Corridor for New Mobility Aachen-Dusseldrof project. The project in question was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport and supported by RWTH University Aachen, Vodafone, Straßen.NRW (the road authority for the state of North Rhine-Westphalia) and the city of Aachen.
