Alfa Romeo returns to Formula 1 under the name of Stake and presents the C44, the new single-seater of the team and will be entrusted to Valtteri Bottas and Guanyu Zhou
The big news keeps coming after Hamilton’s move to Ferrari. In fact, Alfa Romeo is back and has a surprise for Formula 1: the new Sauber C44 single-seater. The very name of this vehicle takes away the veil from Alfa Romeo, which today, since its debut in Formula 1 and after changing many names, is now called Stakelike the title sponsor that shares the name with Kickeven if in 2026 it will be the official Audi team. But two years pass like lightning, so they are already working in Hinwil to ensure a good transition, in parallel with the development of the power unit in Germany, specifically in the Neuburg bathhouse.

Big changes require a certain stability, which is why Stake has decided to continue to focus on the pair of drivers Valterri Bottas e Guanyu Zhou. 2023 hasn’t been easy for Alfa Romeo. Bottas did not give the desired results, failing to address the team’s difficulties, while Zhou did not demonstrate the growth he had after making very few mistakes in a rookie year. Both have to work hard, keeping their jobs for 2025 won’t be easy. There were rumors of one transformation into Audi, which would have greatly influenced the choice of drivers for 2025. The two drivers will probably be brought to Hinwil a year early. Those at the moment are second rate seats, but they could become very coveted and they know this. Sauber intends to do better than ninth place compared to last year’s world championship, with a lot of technical help.
Technical help would be from James Key, who became technical director in Jan Monchaux in 2023, who will work on the new Kick Sauber C44. The single-seater will have the sponsor’s colors, with a contrast of black and green. The new technical director defined it as virtually new. The Kick Sauber C44 has a different front suspension architecture. Last year Alfa Romeo had push-rod suspension at both the front and rear, while now the front ones are pull-rod and the rear ones are push-rod. On the aerodynamic side, the Stake follows the Red Bull concepts, with the lower part of the bellies moved forward. The front part, the nose of the single-seater, takes on a more conventional shape than that of last year, without the vertical blade. But other updates will arrive in the first races of the year.
