The Biennial of Female Photography will be held in Mantua from 3 to 27 March 2022 confirming the artistic direction of Alessia Locatelli, with the support of the Municipality of Mantua and the Province of Mantua and FUJIFILM Italia
FUJIFILM has always supported projects in support of image culture, as well as initiatives focused on women and their social and professional empowerment.
For a somewhat natural bond, FUJIFILM Italia has been at the side of the Biennial of Female Photography in Mantua since the beginning, a space, an event in which photography and female expression are combined.
The reflection of this special edition revolves around Legacy, a term that summarizes several concepts: it means Legacy, legacy to be passed on to future generations. In the current era, so charged with changes, the human collective must measure itself with what has been left to it, act with this legacy in the present to create a future that is strong and balanced.
The BFF 2022 presents major exhibitions of Italian and international photographers and numerous other accompanying initiatives, including an Open Call for the Circuit Off, Portfolio readings, workshops, book presentations, conferences and screenings.
Biennial of Female Photography: the support of FUJIFILM
In a society where full gender equality still does not exist and whose story is told mainly by a male, Western and heteronormal gaze, even female photography is almost always underrepresented and too often stereotyped. For this reason, the BFF aims to become a solid point of reference, in Italy and internationally, with the aim of raising awareness as much as possible about the issues of equality, equality and freedom of expression and, at the same time, offer an opportunity for the aforementioned categories, professional and non, to participate in the world of contemporary art. Many of the photographers present in Mantua exhibit for the first time in a personal exhibition in Italy; this aspect underlines the very important cultural and research work – also at an international level – carried out by BFF.
Moreover, for an 8 March dedicated to photography for all, FUJIFILM Italia and BFF 2022 will celebrate International Women’s Rights Day.
Fujifilm will also be Sponsor of an extraordinary opening of the Biennale: on Tuesday 8 March 2022, from 10 am to 6 pm, it will be possible to have free access to the exhibitions of the Biennial of Female Photography that are hosted at the Casa del Mantegna.
The initiative that was conceived and programmed with the aim of involving men and women to celebrate the International Day of Women’s Rights together, for a reflection on a society in which full gender equality does not yet exist and whose history is told mainly by a male gaze.
The program of the Biennial of Female Photography 2022 is available on the official website of the event.
