The news comes in the Power On newsletter of Mark Gurman, Bloomberg analyst and expert in the world of technology and Apple in particular. According to Gurman, the feature could arrive later this year or in 2023.
Apple would in fact have signed an agreement with Globastar Inc. to buy 17 satellites which would provide ongoing coverage. Globastar confirmed the deal from hundreds of billions of dollars, though did not confirm that the buyer is Apple.
But the fact that Apple appears to be launching a template rugged of its smartwatch, suggests that the company wants to offer a higher level emergency service per when users go on an adventure.
This news aligns with what Gurman previously communicated regarding the launch of a satellite service from Apple, which it should also arrive on the iPhone. And it could be Apple’s first step towards a global telecommunications service, even if this development is pure speculation at the moment.
But the fact that Apple wants to enter the field of extreme sports smartwatches seems to be confirmed by multiple sources. The Apple could take advantage of alternative services such as that of Garmin inReach Explorer or SPOT. But an alternative of him could prove successful.
