George RR Martin has said he is against the creation of one of the most anticipated spin-offs in the world of Game of Thrones. Here are the details
Fans know it well: the universe of Game of Thrones it’s really huge. Epic struggles, loves and power intrigues have poured out, from the extraordinary mind of George R.R. Martin, to the pages of his books, keeping millions of readers and, subsequently, just as many spectators glued. Although the main story ended in a somewhat questionable way, the success of its recent spin-off, House of the Dragon, is undeniable and the public was immediately enthusiastic about seeing other characters brought to the screen. Yet, after numerous and insistent requests, there are some events that the author really doesn’t intend to turn into a TV series. It’s about the rebellion of King Robert Baratheon. Let’s find out the reason for this choice.
Robert Baratheon’s Rebellion | Game of Thrones: Martin says no to one of the most requested spin-offs
Fans have been clamoring for it since 2019, the year in which Game of Thrones ended, yet King Robert’s Rebellion, an event before the start of the mother series, seems to have no chance of landing on the screen. The events in question concern the harsh struggle that affected Westeros in conjunction with the birth of Daenerys Targaryen. Her events pit her family against each other, headed by the girl’s father, as well as King of the seven Kingdoms, Aerys IIalso known as the Mad King and Robert Baratheonwho rebelled, together with other families, against his tyranny.
The interest in this story is understandable, since it would bring back on stage almost all the families and characters that we have learned to love, from Ned Stark a Jaime Lannisteryes Varysa Tywin Lannister, clearly in a younger version and alongside new characters, until now only mentioned. The mother work often makes references to these events, precisely because they are the basis of the dynamics that we have followed with great interest in the series. Yet George RR Martin has no intention of transposing the events.
Martin’s words
It is the author, George RR Martin, who says he is against the creation of this series. These are his words:
We will not carry out Robert’s Rebellion. I know thousands of you would like it, I know there’s a petition… But by the time I finish writing A Song of Ice and Fire everything important about Robert’s rebellion will have already been told. There would be no surprises or big revelations in a series like this, just the depiction of a conflict whose ending you already know. It’s not a story I want to tell right now.
