After four years from the release of God of War on PS4, Sony’s exclusive has finally arrived on PC: the director of the title explains in an interview what convinced the company to bring it
The reboot of God of War, one of PlayStation’s most iconic sagas, was released four years ago at the hands of the Santa Monica studio. It was a chapter that revolutionized the entire series, bringing players to a totally new environment, with much deeper and more immersive gameplay and storytelling. And while these new mechanics may have initially intimidated the biggest fans of this saga, the results achieved have been outstanding.
The new God of War turned out to be a work capable of bewitching users, enough to beat Red Dead Redemption 2 himself during The Game Awards 2018. In addition, in recent days, the release of God of War on PC has made the enthusiasm for this exclusive even to players alien to the world of PlayStation understand. . For the occasion, director Cory Barlog has also unveiled on Game Informer how the studio convinced Sony to take the exclusivity to another platform.
The pressure of the studios for the release of God of War on PC
While Sony has long since begun to turn its gaze towards the PC market through the PS Now, this still remains a not very varied catalog, and which does not guarantee real direct access to the titles present in it, usable only through streaming. However, from March 2020 Sony has shown in practice that it wants to bring several exclusives on PC, starting with Horizon Zero Dawn, one of the flagship titles of PS4. According to Barlog, the port of God of War would have taken two years, so it makes sense to think that it began in conjunction with this new direction undertaken by the company. But the director of God of War reveals another fundamental aspect, which would have guided the release of the exclusives on PC: it is the strong insistence not only from Santa Monica, but also from Sony’s other internal studios.
In the GameInformer interview, Barlog reveals that such pressure from PlayStation studios would be so heavy it would eventually led to “exasperate” the company, which would have decided to yield to the demands of the studies. As for God of War Ragnarok, the director says he has no idea if the arrival of God of War on PC would also pave the way for its sequel, which should also find its release this year. Yet, after Horizon Zero Dawn, Days Gone, God of War and Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, the possibility of seeing more important PlayStation titles on PC soon cannot be ruled out.
