Google has extended the possibility of using the “Folder Locked” from Google photo on all devices. This feature, first arriving exclusively on the Pixel, allows you to hide private photos and videos, which you don’t want to show in the main section.
The Google Photos Locked Folder arrives on all devices
Google announced the feature Folder Locked at IO 2021 in May. It allows you to protect some photos and videos so that you can only unlock it with a security code or with the biometric options: facial recognition, fingerprint. In this way, you can prevent them from happening under the eyes of the friend to whom you lend the smartphone or of children while they play.
The feature is expected to arrive on all devices as it used to be accessible solo from Pixel 3 onwards. However, the rollout is not necessarily immediate, you may have to wait a little longer to receive it.
How to activate the function
If you want to try using the Locked Folder feature right away, access is easy. You just have to:
- Launch the Google photo
- Go to the section Collection, which you should find at the bottom right
- Select Utility (one of the tabs at the top along with Favorites, Archive and Trash)
- You should see the tab Configure Locked Folder. If not, scroll down to Organize your collection and you will find the item Locked Folder
By clicking on Configure, you should first enter the lock code or enter your biometric fingerprint / identification. Once done, you can select the images. In future photographs, you can directly find the item “IInsert to Locked Folder “.
This way, you can make the most of Google’s cloud storage without fear of someone seeing your most private photos and videos.
