Google Pixel continues to be talked about despite not being the most used smartphone in the world. It was recently launched Pixel 8 by Google and have been sold to date approximately 40 million phones. This has resulted in a significant increase over the last year.
Google scales smartphone sales with the Pixel 8 series
Francisco Jeronimo and the vice president of IDC and affirmed the fact that Google Pixel managed to sell 37.9 million phones between 2016 and 2023. The vice president also highlighted how sales have grown steadily in recent years.
These numbers, however, are not at the same level as Apple’s. The Cupertino company is able to sell over 224 million iPhones every year. Google, however, does not give up because it is still climbing the rankings. In 2018, Jeronimo pointed out that Google doubled its shipments in the first year, reaching almost four million units. In 2019, Google’s momentum picked up, with 7.2 million units sold that year alone.
The previous year Google sold nearly 30 million smartphones, having sold 27.6 million units shortly before the launch of the Pixel 7. That means Google shipped about 10 million Pixel phones in the last 12 months, marking a potential year record breaking for Pixel and surpassing the previous record of 7.2 million units.
Google establishes itself in the global market
This ability to enter the market in an explosive manner is not surprising. Consider, in fact, Google’s growing presence in the United States e in Japan in the last year. An analysis of the second quarter at the beginning of 2023 highlighted the rise of the Pixel smartphone and, instead, the decline of Android competitors.
