If you use WhatsApp his Android, you already know that you have unlimited backups available on Google Drive thanks to the agreement between WhatsApp and Google a few years ago. This is a great advantage for Android users, since Apple does not offer an unlimited plan to store iCloud backups but things are apparently about to change in the future.
Let’s find out all the details together.
Google’s limited plans for WhatsApp
According to a recent report by the renowned WhatsApp beta-tracker, WABetaInfo, Google will stop offering unlimited space for backups of WhatsApp on Android phones. The tipster recently discovered some strings of code in WhatsApp which suggest the same.
As can be seen in the image above, the messaging app has recently integrated some code strings such as “Google Drive limit in effect”, “Google Drive limit reached” and others, suggesting that Android users they will soon lose the benefit of unlimited backups of the app in Google Drive. In fact this news is not all that surprising, as Google has stopped offering free unlimited storage for Google Photos last year.
However, it is suggested that Google will still offer one certain storage quota for backups of WhatsApp. However, it will now be part of a limited plan. So users may have to choose between important WhatsApp data to back up in the future for avoid exceeding the limit.
While we don’t have information about the new limited plan for WhatsApp backups in Google Drive yet, there are chances that the limit could increase if a user has a Google One plan. However, these are just speculations at the moment and we expect to hear more in the coming weeks. So, stay tuned with us for more updates.
