The anticipation is growing for the new chapter of Grand Theft Auto. After all, the latest game of the franchise, released in 2013, is about to turn 10 next September. Fans have been fantasizing about the future of GTA 6 for years, amid rumors and official comments, but today we finally have some answers.
Bloomberg indeed reports that the new game it will be set in Miami, so we can expect a return to Vice City. The portal also tells us that the title will not be released for two years, and that the main character will be a woman (for the first time in the history of the franchise).
Everything we know about GTA 6
According to Bloomberg, the game’s protagonists will be two (thus taking up the possibility of switching between characters as in GTA V): one of the two will be a Latin woman. According to insiders, the two protagonists could be inspired by Bonnie and Clyde. The setting has also been revealed: Grand Theft Auto should finally return to Vice City, a fictional transposition of Miami.
Due to the slowdowns in the development of the game, the interviewed developers said that the title is far away “At least two years” from launch. Rockstar Games previously announced that the pandemic had slowed the development process further.
Finally we know that the narrative style could differ significantly from the previous chapters. This is because Rockstar wants to avoid using the typical satirical humor towards ethnic minorities, an aspect that has characterized the franchise. The tragic story of George Floyd has already led to the cancellation of the Cops ‘n’ Crooks game mode. Finally, at the beginning of the year, Rockstar removed all potentially transphobic content from GTA 5 and GTA Online.
