The development studio Twice Different is working on a Winnie the Pooh horror game. Yes, you read that right, the cuddly teddy bear loved by children is about to become a horrifying genetically mutated bear, ready to wreak havoc.
The project is called Winnie’s Hole, and it’s not the first horror adaptation of Pooh, although it’s the first in the videogame field. In fact, we had already told you about Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honeya far from commendable horror film, which has garnered negative opinions and reviews throughout the boundless world of the internet.
Recall that the Winnie the Pooh character has been in the public domain since 2022, as US copyright law states that fictional works and characters can be freely used 70 years after the death of the original author (or 95 years after publication). In the case of the original book, written in 1926, the second option applies.
The trailer for Winnie’s Hole, the Winnie the Pooh horror game
The game mixes elements of Plague Inc. – the mobile game that allows you to create a lethal virus – e Tetris. The goal is to genetically modify the virus that infected Pooh, in order to make it more aggressive and infectious.
The trailer of the game – which you find below – shows us a split screen in which on one side we are shown the inside of Pooh’s body, while on the other the outside. Inside we will have to line up Tetris-style figures to unlock mutation combinations. The combinations also have consequences outside the character, bringing the teddy bear to become a character worthy of David Cronenberg’s worst fantasies: extra limbs, excess eyes and changed body shapes.
But the mutations don’t stop at the aesthetics. In fact, players will also be able to access the virus skill tree, thus unlocking lethal symptoms and powers, such as the greater transmissibility of the pathogen. Again: if you’ve played Plague Inc., you’ll understand what we’re talking about. Residents of the Hundred Acre Wood can prepare for lockdown.
Noteworthy is the scene in the trailer where Pooh vomits on poor Piglet. Very remarkable. Horrifying, but remarkable.
If you’re not grossed out enough by the idea, you can add Winnie’s Hole to your Steam wishlist.
