In our tribute article to Ryuichi Sakamoto we read:
“From the iconic Forbidden Colors featuring David Sylvianforever enshrined as one of the gems of 80s music, to the Academy Award-winning Last Emperor soundtrack by Bernardo Bertolucciwith David Byrne of the Talking Heads e Cong Su. In between everything else: the beginnings as a pianist, the electrocution for jazz, the success with the Yellow Magic Orchestra, the experiments, the collaborations with David Bowie, Madonna, Brian Eno e Alva Noto. Names that, rereading them like this, a bit at random, give you the creeps. Authors of the most important pages in the history of music. A samurai capable of uniting East and West in peace, experimentation and melody, crossing genre boundaries“.
Sakamoto’s most recent album, 12, was released in January, marking his 71st birthday. This is his first work, excluding soundtracks, in almost six years.
