The setting of Hogwarts Legacy it extends beyond the grounds of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The story of Hogwarts Legacy will take us into wizarding world circa 1800, which is almost 200 years before the events of the Harry Potter books. The title features an original story that will allow us to experience life as one fifth year student of Hogwarts to which they have granted admission late as we hold the key to an “ancient secret” that is threatening the world of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Avalanche Software states that “we will embark on a dangerous journey to discover a hidden truth of the wizarding world” in Hogwarts Legacy, visiting some familiar places and meeting a new cast of characters.
From the Hogwarts Legacy gameplay we’ve seen so far, it’s clear that the developers have really built a vast RPG set in the larger Harry Potter universe. We will be able to create our character, select one of the four houses and then play as a student of Hogwarts. We will learn new magical skills e how to make potions in class, we will face dark creatures and powers in wand vs. wand fights in the world and we will level up our skills and equipment as we gain new experience. Character Creation and Combat System – What you need to know about Hogwarts Legacy
As in many RPGs, Hogwarts Legacy will also allow us to create a character as faithful to us as possible. We will obviously start from an already preset character and then we will go to change some aspects such as skin tone, shape of nose or mouth, hair style, and eye and hair colors. We will not be able to modify the various parameters in detail, but we will have to base ourselves on pre-set models and select the one that best suits. We will also be able to select the voice that our character will have and whether to stay in the witch or wizard dormitory regardless of the selected aspect.
As we have said, in this video game we will be able to become the wizard or witch we have always wanted to be. In addition to wielding our wand, we will be able to learn spells such as Incendio, Flipendo and Oppugnotaught during the various lessons or learned from the various companions we will meet during our adventure. In total there will be 20 spells that we will be able to assign to slots to use in combat and create our own combos between these and the basic magic shots.
Spells will fall into various categories such as “harm” o “control” which will be specially marked with colors to help us destroy the enemy’s shields. During combat there will also be a Batman Arkham-style mechanic for avoid incoming attacks. We will also be able to increase fighting skills through special potions prepared at school e increase combat effectiveness investing the experience gained in a system of talents that will allow us to further refine our style of play.
Common rooms and classrooms – What you need to know about Hogwarts Legacy
We had already seen, in ours guide on how to choose your house, the four common rooms that will serve as a dormitory and meeting point for the various students. Each of the four houses therefore has its own exclusive common room, from that of the Slytherins at the bottom of the abyss of the lake to that of the Gryffindors in one of the towers of the castle. These are areas where we will be able to relax and interact with other students, meet different NPCs and find unique items and locations to interact with. Every common room it also includes its own unique entrance: For example, Slytherin’s door is revealed by a slithering stone snake, while Hufflepuff’s entrance is hidden behind what appears to be a giant keg.
The growth of our wizard or witch also passes through various lessons to be held in the castle. We will be able to attend classes such as Spells, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Herbology, and Potions to learn how to cast new spells, brew potions, grow magical plants and more. There is also a flight class which will help us master the art of broom flying and make exploring the grounds of Hogwarts Castle a little easier. We know there will be professors to meet, though Avalanche Software has yet to detail how in-depth the Hogwarts Legacy lessons will truly be.
Characters and companions – What you need to know about Hogwarts Legacy
The title is advertised as a in-depth role play, so obviously there will be many characters and companions to meet along the way. We will be able to make friends with other students of the school and even bring them into the world with us as companions to aid us in combat and exploration.
In addition to directly assisting our adventure, the characters can also teach us new spells and unlock more story content as we start to become friends and get to know their backstories. We will also meet familiar ghosts from Harry Potter, such as Nearly Headless Nick, Peeves and Professor Cuthbert Binns. As a fifth year student we will also be able to interact with a variety of professors at the schoolincluding those who teach Charms, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Potions, and Herbology.
