Have you ever wondered how much a Christmas tree consumes? Yet it is common practice to keep it on most of the time. What will its consumption be? Are there any pitfalls? Let’s find out
How beautiful Christmas is. The scent of sweets, the decorations in the streets, the first gifts under the tree and a joyful and supportive atmosphere. Already, Christmas is one of the most wonderful times of the yearin which the entire environment manages to offer and make people experience unique sensations from year to year.
There is an element that, however, remains constant and it is an element that is present in the homes of each of us. It is, clearly, of the Tree, the decorative decoration par excellence, without which Christmas wouldn’t be the same. We are used to keeping Christmas trees lit all the time or at least most of the time but have we ever asked ourselves, How much does a Christmas tree actually consume?
How much does a Christmas tree consume… together with the other decorations?
On the Tree, obviously, as well as balls and various trinkets, there are many lights that consume electricity. It is estimated that, if kept on 24 hours a day from the Immaculate Conception to the Epiphany, the lights on the tree will consume 0,25kWh. If we were to keep it on for 6 hours, however, consumption would drop to 0,06kWh.
There is more, however, because this reflection on consumption must be related to the number of trees and lights that will be installed in all homes and to the light decorations even outside the single Tree: according to Ansa if all families, on average , keep the luminous decorations “lit” for 6 hours a day (always in the month from 8 December to 6 January), the total consumption will be equivalent to 46.000MWh to which an emission of is added CO2 of 651 tons. And so, let’s decorate yes, but with moderation and with an eye towards the environment.
