Hic is a young Viking who, despite not being as physically powerful as his other companions, wants to become a dragon hunter. During training Hic manages to accidentally injure a dragon considered particularly rare and dangerous, Toothless. Not being able to kill him, Hic takes care of him and soon an unusual friendship is born between him and Toothless that will change not only Hic’s way of seeing the world but also his entire tribe.
