Volkswagen will soon expand its range of electric cars from the ID family with a new model, the much “talked about” ID. Buzz. The German company has shown some official photos but which still do not fully reveal the design and style of the electric VAN that will be proposed also in the “Cargo” version. However, there won’t be long to wait to see it without camouflage, as the official launch is scheduled for March 9th.
However, Volkswagen has released some data. For example, the basic version is 4712 mm long, 1985 mm wide and 1937 mm high (the “Cargo” version is one millimeter higher). The wheelbase has a value of 2988 millimeters and the luggage compartment volume of the passenger version will offer 1121 liters, while the Cargo offers a cargo space of 3.9 m3.
Also new for traction. VW’s electric van arrives for the first time with an electric motor at the rear with an output of 150 kW and 310 Nm of torque. The battery placed under the floor has a total usable capacity of 82 kWh or 77 kWh. We will still have to wait for a certified range using the WLTP methodology, but we are talking about 400 kilometers on a single charge. Top speed is electronically limited to 145 km / h. More powerful variants will come later, including an all-wheel drive version.
ID. Buzz, Volkswagen new “electric” technologies on the way
Volkswagen, for the ID. Buzz has several interesting news in store for the future. One of these is the Plug & Charge function which will allow the van to authenticate itself via the charging connector at the fast charging stations (DC, direct current) of many suppliers. This will allow it to exchange all the necessary data with the charging point, offering a net added value in terms of comfort.
And that’s not all. The German house will put another new feature on the plate: bidirectional charging. This technology opens up a completely new spectrum of possibilities. As an example only, it will be possible to store in the ID. Buzz the excess energy produced by the home photovoltaic system during the day, in order to be able to re-enter it into the home network in the evening, so that your home is self-sufficient from an energy point of view even in the absence of the sun.
The world premiere of the ID.Buzz as mentioned is scheduled for March 9 this year and both variants should be shown. Production is scheduled to start in the first half of this year, with sales in select European markets starting in the fall.
