“Creators live off their content, and that should never be taken for granted. That’s why we are introducing a number of features to allow them to earn revenue, and earn from the content they create. “
The CEO then went on to explain how subscriptions for Instagram creators will work, which will consist of three important innovations:
- Stories: creators will be able to create stories that will only be visible to users who subscribe to their profile. This content, as is already the case for the stories reserved for close friends, will be characterized by the purple color of the classic circle around the profile image.
- Live: creators will be able to go live with lives reserved exclusively for subscribers
- Enrolled badges: subscribers will receive a specific badge, which will appear next to their name and will be visible in the comments and in the DMs. This way the creator will know that the user who wrote that comment financially supports his work.
Mosseri explained that testing for the new features will begin this week in the United States. Like all Instagram tests, this one will be reserved for a small group of creators. We can therefore expect the subscription functionality to arrive definitively and globally in the coming months.
