Instagram launches the Take a Break feature in Italy today, which allows you to set a time limit within the app. The latter alerts the user that he is spending more time than expected on the social via a notification.
Take a Break: Instagram’s new feature for conscious use
Arrived in Italy a few minutes ago, the new functionality of Instagram has a fairly explanatory name: Take a break. This allows individual users to establish a maximum number of hours that you decide to spend on the social network. Once the self-imposed limit has been exceeded, you will be notified with a message that will invite us to exit the app. A simple system, very reminiscent of the functionality of online casinos, which aims to guarantee one greater awareness and control by members.
According to tests carried out by the company (Meta), the functionality was particularly appreciated in the countries where it was tested. Ansa reports that the success rate affected 90% of adolescents involved, which would tend to respect the notification sent by the app.
How to activate the feature
To activate Take a Break, just log in to Settings -> Accounts -> Your activity and finally Set break reminder. From here you can set a reminder in the form of a notification that will notify us when the time spent in the app becomes “excessive”. Here’s how the platform explained the new feature:
“With ‘Take a break’ we have added another tool to those that Instagram already offers for time management. The Daily Reminder allows people to set the amount of time they want to spend on social media during the day and notifies them when they have reached the set limit, with the ability to disable notifications to focus seamlessly on what they are doing ”.
The platform will release soon additional features for a more informed use of the social network. Among these there will be several tools reserved for parentslike the function that warns of any reports sent by minor children. The basic idea is to allow parents to discuss with their children the problems that may arise in the app.
