Intel: historic result in experimentation on quantum chips

Intel achieves historic achievement in thumbnail quantum chip testing

Intel registered a new historical result in experimentation relating to quantum chip manufacturing. In fact, Intel Labs and Components Research recorded the largest production yield ever seen in the manufacture of silicon spin qubit devices at the Gordon Moore Park center in Hillsboro.

Intel achieves historic breakthrough in quantum chip research

This is a major achievement in Intel’s testing program for quantum chip manufacturing. Using the device Intel cryoprobercapable of operating at -271.45 degrees Celsius, Intel researchers managed to isolate 12 quantum dots and 4 sensors, resulting in the largest silicon electron spin device ever made, with a single electron at each location within an entire 300mm silicon wafer. These results enable Intel to accelerate the learning program for making quantum chips. This is a critical step in achieving the production of the thousands or even millions of qubits needed to build a quantum computer.

James Clarke, director of Quantum Hardware di Intel, says, “Intel continues to make progress in making silicon spin qubits manufactured using its own transistor manufacturing technology. The high throughput and consistency achieved shows that fabricating quantum chips using proven transistor processing node technology is a viable strategy and an important indicator of success in moving towards commercialization. In the future we will continue to improve the quality of these devices and develop systems on a larger scale ”.
