In the last few hours, Apple has confirmed that customers who have received the new iPhone 14 may experience a problem with activation of the device, if the initial configuration is not done via Wi-Fi. An iOS 16 bug that the Cupertino company is still keeping under control, according to reports.
iOS 16: A bug affects the activation of iPhone 14 models
In a note that ended up in the hands of MacRumors, referring to the new iPhone 14 models, Apple says that “there is a known problem for iOS 16 that could affect device activations on open Wi-Fi networks”. A bug to which the company has found – in its own way – a solution. Apple suggests users to select the “Connect to Mac or PC with iTunes” option in the iOS initialization process, when prompted to connect to a Wi-Fi network. And then of try again with Wi-Fi until activation is successful.
In any case, Apple noted in the note that there is no official fix for the iOS 16 bug. And that support staff shouldn’t “create a repair case for the problem”. The real dilemma, as you can imagine, is that right now, users are receiving their first orders for the iPhone 14. Yet, Apple seems to have once again found a solution. Owners of the new models can download theiOS 16.0.1 updatewhich solves the issue with device activation and migration during setup.
Finally, in a support document, Apple informs new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro customers that “iMessage and FaceTime may not complete activation” until they have updated their new iPhones to iOS 16.0.1. A nice trick on the part of iOS 16, which Apple has managed to better manage. Or so it seems.
