Lately Apple revealed that it will soon be possible replace the display of the iPhone 13 without risking disabling the Face ID. Let’s find out all the details together.
It is now possible to replace the Apple display of iPhones without blocking the Face ID
Shortly after the iPhone 13 was launched, repair experts discovered that the replacement of screens of Apple devices would have Face ID locked. It was only possible to solve this problem moving a small chip control from the original screen. However it is a complex process for independent stores, which would only risk worsening the situation.
Luckily though, Apple is about to make things easier for everyone, both for Apple stores and independent stores. The Cupertino company revealed to The Verge that, shortly, will release a software update which won’t require stores to transfer the microcontroller to keep Face ID working after a screen change.
The current transfer procedure appears to be quite challenging. It requires in fact weather, special equipment and also the ability to micro-weld. For many independent repair shops that can rely on Apple screen repairs for higher revenue, the process is likely prohibitive and could even be detrimental to their business.
Lately iFixit explained the transfer process in detail of the microcontroller, also showing a video that gives users a behind-the-scenes look at the process. At the moment Apple has not yet announced O unveiled the official release date of this software update.
