This weekend the team Jaguar TCS Racing he will return to racing, more determined than ever, on the streets of Roma, trying to replicate the successes obtained in the past editions in rounds 13 and 14 of the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship 2023. In one of the most famous amphitheaters in the world, a new gladiator is preparing to take to the arena: for the first time the Jaguar I-TYPE 6 will race on the streets of Rome. The Hankook Rome E-Prix 2023 marks the fifth Formula E race on the EUR Street Circuit since its debut in 2014. The Gen3 cars have shown this season that they have raised the intensity of racing performance. The Rome circuit, with its 19 corners and 3.385 kilometers of uneven, undulating and banked surfaces, will be a real challenge for the drivers and teams.
For the second time this 2023 season, Jaguar TCS Racing are delighted to announce the return to the track of Formula E rookie Sheldon Van Der Linde, who will take part in Free Practice 0 Friday 14th July. Sheldon recorded strong performances during the rookie tests in Berlin in April, setting the best times in the first practice session. The rookie tests present a fantastic opportunity for drivers to make their debut in all-electric sporting competitions and to seek out the next Formula E talent. Currently, the Jaguar TCS Racing team sits third in the team standings, while in the driver standings, Mitch Evans is fourth and Sam Bird ninth

We had an incredible run of results in Rome, but as always it’s important to stay focused and not give in to the pressure. Rome is one of my favorite tracks as it is a real street circuit and I can’t wait to get behind the wheel of our Jaguar I-TYPE 6, but with the new Gen3 car and a new Hankook tyre, the challenge will be even more exhilarating . This weekend I will do my best to stay in the fight for the championship.

Rome is a favorite circuit for many drivers and engineers, and there’s a reason for that! 3.385 km, 19 curves and a roller coaster-like track with undulations, fast corners and twisty sections. To have a good race you need to have a car set-up that is capable of negotiating a really bumpy section up to turn 7, but also cornering very efficiently in the tighter sections. This year the race takes place in much hotter conditions than in the past, so it will be a complicated race also for the engines and the tyres. We can’t wait to take on the challenge and compete once again in this incredible city.

I am really excited to be joining Jaguar TCS Racing for my second rookie test with the team. Last time I was in Berlin it was a very positive experience and I learned a lot about Formula E: the best in the morning session was a real strength. I can’t wait to get back behind the wheel of the Jaguar I-TYPE 6, hoping to have another successful session and help the engineers gather valuable data ahead of the Rome E-Prix. It’s the first time I’ll be driving a Formula E car on a real street circuit and Rome is probably one of the best tracks on the calendar, so I’m really looking forward to it.

Jaguar TGS Racing: Rome and the history of racing
Jaguar returned to competition in October 2016, becoming the first Premium brand to participate in the FIA Formula E Championship city races. In season eight, Mitch Evans finished second in the Drivers’ Championship – the most successful result since Jaguar TCS Racing has been in Formula E. This The World Championship is a true proving ground for Jaguar and its journey towards becoming a fully electrified luxury brand from 2025. Jaguar TCS Racing’s mission is to “Reimagine sporting competition”. The team will test, develop, learn and collaborate through the sharing of information that will benefit the development of future JLR vehicles.
In particular, knowledge and technology transfer from Formula E will help “Reimagine” the Jaguar brand, as the company engages in the Gen3 era of Formula E. In fact, 2023 is the first year that the teams will compete in Gen3 cars, the world’s first zero-emission racing cars. As an official Formula E team and constructor, Jaguar TCS Racing designs its own powertrain in-house, comprising engine, transmission, inverter and rear suspension. For the Gen3 era, Jaguar through its long-term partnership with Williams Advanced Engineering will supply Envision Racing with its own powertrain.
For better cost management, the carbon fiber frame and battery are common and the same components for all 11 teams. This allows focus on the development of lightweight and efficient electric propulsion systems that will enhance the performance of future JLR electric vehicles. All teams have two cars, one per driver, which will be used for the entire duration of the race. Beyond being reserved for fully electric vehicles, Formula E is a unique motor competition in the world also for the choice of its locations.
The 2023 championship takes place on temporary circuits in the center of some of the most important cities in the world such as Mexico City, Diriyah and Rome, with the addition of new locations such as Hyderabad, Cape Town and Sao Paulo. The season finale takes place over a double race weekend in London. In 2022, Jaguar TCS Racing finished fourth in the Teams’ standings with seven podiums, four wins, one pole position, one fastest lap and 231 points won – the biggest haul the team has ever achieved to date. New Zealander Mitch Evans finished second in the Drivers’ standings last season, while Sam Bird was thirteenth.
Formula E remains a priority event for Jaguar Land Rover and the company’s Reimagine strategy. As the only championship in the world reserved for electric vehicles, Formula E allows the company to test and develop new technologies in a high-performance environment.
