After a period of discouragement, Johnny Depp is preparing to return to the big screen with Jeanne Du Barry, the opening film of the Cannes Film Festival

The film follows the story of Jeannea young woman of the working class, endowed with great charm, intelligence and ambition, with which she was able to climb the French hierarchies, reaching the presence of King Louis XV. The sovereign, enchanted by Jeanne and unaware of the girl’s true origins, will fall madly in love with her, rediscovering her zest for life. This will allow Jeanne to move to live at the French court, even if not everything goes as hoped. Her arrival will be a source of scandal, because no one will want a street girl at the king’s side. The film sees as the protagonist Maiwennas Jeanne; by his side Johnny Depp, Benjamin Lavernhe, Melville Poupaud, Pierre Richard, Pascal Greggory e India Hair.
A big comeback
Jeanne Du Barry, will be directed by Maiwenn, French actress, director, screenwriter and film producer who will also take part in the film as a protagonist. Maïwenn, in her sixth feature film, is no stranger to the Cannes Film Festival: in 2011 she had in fact received the Grand Jury Prizefor the movie Policies. In 2015 she returned to the event with My king, for which Emmanuelle Bercot won the Best Actress Award. The premiere of the film will be broadcast after the opening ceremony, at the Grand Théâtre Lumière, Tuesday 16 May, day of world premiere and distribution in French cinemas.
