Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre is the new anime series inspired by the manga in the Japanese horror genius Junji Ito, who for the first time has transformed his anime into an animated serial product.
It is an anthological series, in which each episode is separate from the other and has its own conclusion, as happened with Black Mirror on Netflix and Modern Love on Prime Video. A choice that also works very well for animation, in fact Netflix had proposed Love, Death & Robots, an anthological animated series that cynically represented the advent of technology and digital in our lives.
Here, we are faced with another very innovative product because it is a horror anthological series, inspired by twenty stories by the genius of Japanese horror. Among the episodes we will see, there will be The Story of the Mysterious Tunnel, Mold, Layers of Fear, The Thing That Drifted Ashore, Back Alley, Tomie, The Hanging Balloons, Ice Cream Truck.
The animated series will arrive on Netflix on January 19edited by Shinobu Tagashira, and screenplay by Kaoru Sawada.
