Kevin Spacey returns to the cinema with the new film Control, directed and written by Gene Fallaize, albeit as a voice actor
After his acquittal of the charges in the UK, Kevin Spacey returns to the cinema as the protagonist in December with Control. The new film Control sees Kevin Spacey in a key role, even if it will be only voice. The film is produced by Cupsogue Pictures and has already released its first official trailer on August 1st, attracting the attention of fans and critics. It is directed by the British director Gene Fallaize, known for previous Superman: Requiem and Cain Hill. The film will debut on December 15 in America and the UKwhile it is still unknown if there will be an Italian distribution.
Spacey had recorded his vocal role last December, while he was awaiting trial for sexual assault in the UK. In Control Spacey takes on the role of “The Voice”, an enigmatic figure who performs a daring act of revenge against the British Home SecretaryStella Simmons. Her plan unfolds when she steals Simmons’ car from a remote location, as an act of retribution for her public misdeeds. In one scene, The Voice tells the secretary:
Confession is good for the soul. I think your soul could really do some good… I am your judge and jury, and I find you guilty.
Kevin Spacey: a new film in December
The actor was acquitted of several sexual assault charges following his trial in the UK. Spacey’s known legal situation dates back to 2017, when Anthony Rapp accused her of sexual assault. Subsequently, 15 other people filed their charges against him, creating a case that kept him away from the scene for many years and provoked it from current productions (most notably House of Cards) almost immediately.
Despite the controversy surrounding Casting Spacey for Control, director Gene Fallaize has defended his decision. Fallaize said he would make the same choice again, calling Spacey a “good guy.” On the other hand, even before him, Franco Nero decided not to limit himself to what emerged in the media process and offered the actor a role, albeit a secondary one. Control is coming to the US and UK, but it has also found distributors in other parts of the world, including the Middle East, Germany and Russia. On December 15, Kevin Spacey will then return to the cinema, even if only with his own voice.
