Lancia Ypsilon 2024: spy photos of the prototype that ended up underwater

It is certainly not the presentation that every car brand could dream of: seeing a prototype that has been worked on for a long time re-emerge from the water is certainly not pleasant. However, it constitutes an excellent opportunity to enjoy an unexpected preview of the Lancia Ypsilon 2024!

We had already talked about it (here is the complete article): the new Lancia Ypsilon 2024 was already expected for the beginning of next year but an unusual and unfortunate circumstance brought forward its debut by some time. It all started with one emergency call received from the Montbéliard fire brigade (France): a vehicle that sank into the Rhone-Rhine canal had to be recovered from the seabed.

The causes of the accident are not yet clear but at the beginning the divers even thought it was a stolen car, given the absence (fortunately!) of injuries or, worse yet, bodies in the passenger compartment. Only when the car was ‘fished out’ were we able to notice the details that would have unequivocally clarified how it was a prototype in the final stage and not camouflaged of the Lancia Ypsilon 2024.

A completely involuntary and disastrous ‘presentation’

Obviously the parent company would have wanted a completely different type of debut for a decidedly strategic model for the new direction of the brand. This unexpected event will almost certainly cost the surprise effect but gave the public some certainties about the new little Italian girl. As already announced it will be about a compact crossover and the many references to old and new Lancia stylistic features are evident.

Round headlights and headlights on two levels with LED daytime running lights at the top recall the distinctive features of the Pu+Ra HPE prototype. Rims with Y-shaped spokes, Lancia shield on the C-pillar and Lancia writing on the tailgate instead, they recall the most popular details of the classic style of the Torinese brand. The details regarding the engine are not known but, as far as we can hypothesize, it is probably an internal combustion vehicle or at most mild hybrid.

Lancia Ypsilon 2024: few doubts but many questions

At the moment, apart from the elements already mentioned, there is no official confirmation yet regarding the type of car recovered by the French channel, however it is very difficult to have doubts. To confirm the fact that it is precisely the new Lancia Y 2024 it also contributes decisively the proximity of the discovery to the Stellantis factory in Doubs.

Certainly many points still remain unclear: the dynamics of the accident together with lack of camouflage in the middle they leave us somewhat perplexed. It will be interesting to understand how the house will decide to manage the unexpected present the new small car to the public in the best way. And given that it is a decisive model, we can only wish Stellantis the best, with a pinch of good-natured irony, with the motto: ‘wet car, lucky car!’
