Directed by Todd Haynes and presented premiered at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, May December has finally set an Italian release date. The film can count on a Hollywood cast that quickly captured the interest of the general public. On one side Julianne Moore who plays a woman whose love life has fallen into the center of a scandal; on the other Natalie Portmanwho plays a young Hollywood star struggling with a film inspired by that sentimental scandal.

The story is loosely inspired by that of Mary Kay Letourneau, American teacher known in the news for her relationship with a twelve-year-old student at the time of the events who later became her husband. The protagonist of May December, Gracie, followed the same approach, caught red-handed in intimate behavior with her son’s thirteen-year-old friend. Arrested for this, Gracie gave birth to her daughter in prison. Once free, she returned to Joe who married her and together they had a set of twins. Years later, Hollywood star Elizabeth Berry knocks on her door, intending to investigate Gracie’s past which inspired her next film.
Nominated for an Oscar for best original screenplay, May December has already been distributed some time in the United States, while in Italy it arrives at the cinema with Lucky Red starting March 21, 2024. The cast is led by two Hollywood stars, supported by Charles Melton, the face of Riverdale whose performance earned him a Golden Globes nomination. The film was not immune to criticism, having freely taken inspiration from a true story, but for the moment the positive reviews outweigh the detractors.
