The Mazda2 will be joined next year by the Mazda2 Hybrid. While the “Hybrid” addition doesn’t sound all that exciting, it’s a completely different car from the Mazda2 we know. Basically Mazda puts its logos on the Toyota Yaris Hybrid,
At the end of 2014, Mazda introduced the current 2, which after 7 years is a model that can be considered “old”. But in Mazda they have not been idle, and behold, the Japanese company has a new “2” in store for next year. We are talking about the Mazda2 Hybrid, which will be positioned next to the “normal 2” in the dealerships of the brand, given that the current model will still remain on the list for 2022. As anticipated the Mazda 2 Hybrid is basically a Toyota Yaris Hybrid with some minimal external modifications.
The new Mazda is also based on the well-known 1.5 three-cylinder power unit which generates a system output of 116 hp with the help of an electric motor. This allows 0-100 km / h acceleration in 9.7 seconds and a top speed of 175 km / h. Mazda reports fuel consumption of 3.8-4.0 l / 100km, depending on the wheels chosen between the two 16- or 15-inch options.
Mazda2 Hybrid, the twin of the Toyota Yaris Hybrid
You may have a hard time recognizing the Mazda2 Hybrid from the Toyota Yaris Hybrid when the former starts rolling on the roads. Obviously the first distinctive sign it is offered by Mazda logos and also the model name on the back of the car. However, if there is a visual element that differentiates the two models, it can be found on the tailgate. With the Yaris, the rear lights are visually connected by a red stripe, with the Mazda 2 Hybrid this is not the case, as in this case there is a black stripe connecting the lights.. Aside from that, the two cars are almost identical. The interior is also no different, and what the Yaris Hybrid offers can be found on par with the Mazda2 Hybrid.
Of course, the addition of the Mazda2 Hybrid to the range should help reduce the overall CO2 emissions of all Mazda models. Mazda has the all-electric MX-30, but otherwise mainly supplies cars with non-electrified or hybrid-only powertrains. The Mazda2 is therefore the first full-hybrid. The same will be produced side by side with the Toyota Yaris and, as mentioned, will arrive in showrooms next year, to be exact in the spring. Prices will be announced ahead of the launch but should be aligned with the “sister”.
