Francis Ford Coppola returns to competition at the Cannes Film Festival with his new film, Megalopolis. The Cannes Film Festival is scheduled for May 14th to 25th. The film will then be released in the fall with an IMAX release. It seems that Megalopolis will have its world premiere at Cannes on May 17. The director has a special connection with this film festival. In fact, Francis Ford Coppola won his first Palme d'Or at Cannes in 1979 thanks to a still incomplete version of Apocalypse Now.

Megalopolis does not have an official distributor yet, however, it seems that there is one anywayplan to bring it to theaters in autumn 2024, with a particular emphasis on IMAX screens. This suggests that it is a work to be seen at the cinema, given that it is foreboding a certain ambition in the purely visual component. The plot of the film has not yet been leaked, we only know that the setting is an alternate New York, called New Rome. The director personally invested in the project, financing it with the sale of some of his wineries. The goal is to stimulate a reflection on the improvement of society by touching on universal and incredibly current themes such as: education, mental health, justice and freedom. The cast consists of Adam Driver, Forest Whitaker, Nathalie Emmanuel, Laurence Fishburne, Jon Voight, Shia LaBeouf, Giancarlo Esposito, Aubrey Plaza, Dustin Hoffman and many others, including Coppola's sister Talia Shire and her son Jason Schwartzman.
