Woe to Metathe middle of a fine of ben 750mila euro imposed by Agcom following the violation of the ban on gambling advertising. It’s about the dignity decreelaunched in 2018 by the former Minister of Labor and Economic Development Louis DiMaio during the first Conte government.
The maneuver provided for the prohibition of advertising and sponsorships relating to gambling and betting. According to the decree, offenders can be punished with fines ranging from 5% to 20% of the total value of the contested sponsorship.
Agcom fines Meta for gambling advertising: the reasons
In communicating and arguing the provision, Agcom declared:
“Among the reasons underlying the fine, it is underlined, in particular, that Meta is responsible for not having foreseen in its general conditions, intended for the Italian market and relating to the promotion of paid goods and services, any restriction in relation to the advertising of games with cash prizes”. Agcom also asserted that “Meta allows all its business customers who intend to address the Italian public to promote such content, including through the targeted targeting of advertisements”.
In addition to the fine, Agcom has imposed a provision called notice & stay downi.e. it forced Meta to remove all active listings that it deemed illegal. At the moment Meta, through a spokesman, has made it known that he does not agree with the provision. “We are evaluating the options available to us”reads an official note (via AdKronos).
