On the occasion of his last interview, Michael Caine he focused on his next upcoming film, The Great Escaper, claiming that the new film could be his last work. The British actor and film producer would therefore have made the decision to retire from the scene, at the age of 90, after a very long career, which led him to work for both cinema and TV. But what will Michael Caine’s latest effort be about? The film will focus on the true story of Bernard Jordan, a British veteran of the Second World War, who decides to escape from his retirement home to participate in the 70th anniversary of the D-Day celebrations in France. It will be Caine himself who lends his face to the protagonist, Bernard Jordan. At his side Glenda Jackson, who passed away, aged 87, shortly after filming ended. These are Caine’s words when talking about the film:
I loved the character of Bernie. I thought it was incredible and beautifully written. I thought my career was over with Covid but I went back to work to make this film. They gave me a great walking stick and I was able to do the scenes they needed. I only did them once, and then I fell. Just one shot.
Farewell to the scenes
The interview was also an opportunity for the actor to talk about his retirement. Caine has in fact confessed that he is already, as of now, retired. Ready to enjoy his latest effort, he confessed:
I’m 90 years old, and I can’t walk well anymore. I’ve had the best life I could imagine. The best wife possible and the best family possible. I would like to be remembered for the fact that I remained an actor all my life and never gave up on my profession.
A farewell given with the heart therefore, by an actor who loved his work very much and who had a very successful career, which ended in the best possible way, with great satisfaction for what was done.
