In the last two years an ever-increasing number of software houses and publishers have aligned themselves with this trend and now the turn of the Redmond giant has also come. Microsoft has announced in the last few hours, in fact, that i prices of launch of his first-party games for Xbox Series X and S will go from 60 to 70 dollars (80 euro in Italy). Let’s see all the details about it in the next few lines of this article.
Microsoft: “the new prices of Xbox Series X and S games reflect the quality of the titles themselves”
In a statement released to IGN, Microsoft announced that starting in 2023 all first-party games for Xbox Series X and S will experience an increase in prices. This will lead to $70 (80 euro), versus the $60 that was until recently the industry standard for most new releases. This follows statements by Microsoft’s gaming division manager Phil Spencer earlier this year regarding potential price hikes for Xbox hardware, games and subscriptions.
The releases of 2023, such as Forza Motorsport, Starfield e Redfallwill all be released at this price, although of course all Microsoft first party releases will continue to be available day and date via Game Pass. “This price reflects the content, scope and technical complexity of these titles,” Microsoft explains. “Like all games developed by our Xbox teams, these too will be available with Game Pass on launch day“.
Microsoft thus joins the likes of Sony, EA, Activision, Take-Two Interactive, and Square Enix in pricing new releases. Earlier this year, Ubisoft also confirmed the price hike, with Skull and Bones which will be launched with a price of 80 dollars (but only on consoles).
