Moderna, Pfizer and BioNTech have been protagonists in the last two years in the development of mRNA vaccines used to fight the pandemic. Today, surprisingly, the news of theModerna’s intention to sue Pfizer and BioNTech in Germany and the USA. The two companies, which collaborated to develop Moderna’s “rival” vaccine, are accused of intellectual property infringement linked to the technology used to develop the vaccines.
Moderna has announced a lawsuit against Pfizer and BioNTech
According to Moderna, Pfizer and BioNTech have infringed the patents linked to the system that exploits messenger RNA to make vaccines effective. Recall that both vaccines developed, both that of Moderna and that of Pfizer / BioNTech, use this technology.
The lawsuit arises precisely from the accusations of Moderna who believes that the two rivals have infringed the legislation on patents relating to intellectual property. It should be noted that the legal action was long overdue but Moderna had decided to put it on standby to concentrate common efforts in the fight against the pandemic, with the rapid development of vaccines as effective as possible.
In the past, other companies have also filed lawsuits with Moderna as well as Pfizer and BioNTech for infringement of patents related to messenger RNA technology.
