A new revelation about American Sniper has come out of the mouth of its protagonist Bradley Cooper
It was during the promotion of the new film The Fair of Illusions – Nightmare Alley that Bradley Cooper told some background of his career, such as the decision that led him to personally make American Sniper, the famous film with Clint Eastwood as director . First, the actor got the rights to the book himself to make a film out of it, then he got the well-known director involved.
Now Bradley Cooper is not only an established actor, but also a very talented director, as demonstrated by the resounding success of A star is born with Lady Gaga. In addition, he is also one of the faces of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to Rocket Raccoon in Guardians of the Galaxy.
The statement
It is therefore difficult to think of him having difficulty in finding a role in the film world, but until about ten years ago, despite the success of the Hangover trilogy, Cooper was rejected by the directors. Here is the reason why he personally chose to make American Sniper, but we report precisely his words:
I’d do any audition tomorrow for anything. Whichever director is involved who has to decide. I am in a position, or rather I put myself in a position starting with American Sniper, where I could create my own content. With American Sniper, I got the rights to the book and asked Clint Eastwood to direct it; we spent a lot of time perfecting the script and it started from an idea to its end. With A Star Is Born even more, it started with an idea or a feeling of wanting to do something with music, maybe I’ve always wanted to be a musician. And I wanted to tell a love story and I wanted to be there to sing. A lot of this happened because a lot of directors I admired didn’t hire me, because they had already decided in their minds that I wasn’t right for certain things.
To date, things have definitely changed, as Bradley Cooper has received numerous compliments both for his performance in The Fair of Illusions – Nightmare Alley by Guillermo del Toro and for that in Licorice Pizza, directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.
