Hitchcockian vertigo returns to the geometries of Park Chan-wook, whose technical or artistic dexterity is never exhausted in itself but seeks trajectories to represent mystery and desire. Here the Wong Kar-wai mélo marries the thriller, while the protagonist Tang Wei marks the cross between Kim Novak and Eva Marie Saint.
Due clip dal film Decision to Leave di Park Chan-wook
Far from the dark tones of the revenge trilogy that made the whole world known, Park Chan-wook proposes a thriller sentimentale, which manages to combine the breath of the great classics with the freshness of contemporary cinema. As we have seen, many have hailed it as an homage to the cinema of Alfred Hitchcock, a detective story full of twists and turns that intertwines its threads with romantic melodrama, bringing to the big screen a mystery that is both sentimental and of action.
This is the synopsis of the film
While investigating the death of a man who mysteriously fell from the mountain, detective Hae Jun meets the elusive Seo-rae, the victim’s young widow, who doesn’t seem to be shocked by the disappearance of her husband and who, for this very reason, immediately becomes the main suspect of the murder. Guilty or innocent? Melancholy and mysterious, the woman manages to arouse the detective’s interest and ignite in him a disruptive passion, which will lead him to endanger her profession.
