The partnership established in recent years between the Kyoto giant Nintendo and the Jade Titan Microsoft has proven fruitful, especially for fans of the Big N who they received Xbox titles like Minecraft and Ori and the Blind Forest: a partnership, this, on which Doug Bowser was more than happy to comment. Bowser, now the head of the American branch of the Japanese company, defined his Redmond colleagues as “partners in many, many ways, and you just need to look at Switch to see this brotherhood. Obviously, Minecraft is on Switch, and we brought Banjo and Kazooie to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Therefore it is clear that we want to continue this agreement.”

Doug Bowser Talks Nintendo and Xbox Partnership, Microsoft Acquisition Coming?
Naturally, the question of Phil Spencer’s plans to acquire Nintendo in 2020 came up during the interview. Doug Bowser preferred to dodge the question, speaking in a more general sense of acquisitions in full. “As long as we’re talking about consolidations,” Bowser begins, “I’ve been in this industry for over sixteen years now. And the acquisition of studios is a constant. But the other is about the birth of new development teams every year. Incredibly creative studios creating content, from indie to triple-A. So while mergers happen all the time, the same can be said of new teams popping up all the time, which says a lot about the dynamism of the industry. And, in the end, it’s the player who wins.” The partnership is always alive; it remains to be seen whether the content journey will still be one-way or if, implausibly, we will see Nintendo games on Xbox sooner or later.
