Nintendo turned its Mario Kart and Pokémon franchises into successful spinoffs for mobile devices but it looks like another title didn’t go well: we’re talking about Dr Mario World. The company announced that the service of the title will end starting from November 1st. The sale of used diamonds will also end to buy more time, pills and power-ups starting tomorrow, July 29.
Dr Mario World closes its doors
Much like the original, Dr. Mario World is a Tetris style game which allows you to use the pills to target viruses of the same color. Unlike the original, however, everything moves upwards, so it’s more natural to slide things with one hand on a mobile screen.
The mobile game also has a multiplayer mode, to allow players to have fun with their friends.
The title was developed by Nintendo in collaboration with Line, Japan’s ultra-popular mobile messaging app. The 10th July 2019, just over two years ago. Nintendo is maintaining an internet game page called “Dr. Mario World Memories ”which will allow players to look back on their story once the service ends.
Nintendo launched another mobile, Mario Kart Tour, with multiplayer support in early 2020. That title has been downloaded 200 million times and saw relatively high earnings for the company. Its most successful mobile game, however, is Fire Emblem Heroes, which has reportedly earned up to $ 656 million as of February 2020.
Nintendo did not say the exact reason why it decided to close Dr. Mario World from November 1, 2021. According to a report by SensorTower of February 2021, however, it seems that the title has not achieved the desired success.
