Nissan has acquired, with immediate effect, 100% of the e.dams team engaged in the Formula E championship. As part of the acquisition and a newly established management structure, Tommaso Volpe, Nissan’s General Manager in Formula E, will also take over the management of e.dams.
Nissan was the first and so far the only Japanese manufacturer to enter Formula E, making its debut in season 5 (2018/19). The carmaker followed the e.dams team, which has always held the license in Formula E, together with its subsidiary Renault. C.Named Renault e.dams, the team won the team championship three times in a row and took the drivers’ title with Sebastien Buemi in 2015/16. The Swiss is still the driver for this season and has a new season teammate, Maximilian Günther.

The e.dams team was formed in 2014 by Jean-Paul Driot, founder of DAMSto compete in Formula E. In collaboration with four-time Formula 1 world champion Alain Prost and Renault to create Renault e.dams.
In the current 2022 Formula E season, Nissan e.dams is struggling a bit. Last weekend in Rome, Buemi scored the only points for the team with ninth place in Sunday’s race. After several incidents not attributable to him, team-mate Günther has not scrapped any points in both races and is 17th in the championship with just two points. Buemi, former Formula 1 driver and three-time winner of Le Mans, is 15th with six points.
