The Nissan Formula E Team once again confirms itself as one of the teams most attentive to everything related to the green transition and sustainability. Let’s discover together the VAXA ‘Ultra Spirulina’ project and Nissan’s commitment in this sector
The Nissan Formula E Team, through its partnership with software company Coral (full details in this article), based in the United Arab Emirates, announces its new collaboration with the biotechnology company VAXA Technologies for offset carbon emissions generated during the ninth season of the Formula E world championship.
Coral, specialized in professional monitoring of carbon emissions, has now published its report on Team Nissan’s total carbon dioxide (CO2e) emissions during the 2022/23 racing season. The report also includes travel, waste and electricity consumption. Continuing its commitment to sustainability and reducing emissions, the Nissan Formula E will offset 100% of Season 9’s CO2 emissions as early as 2024.
A partnership that aims for great results
To achieve this ambitious goal, Nissan is partnering with Coral to take advantage of VAXA Technologies products. This innovative biotechnology company produces Icelandic Ultra Spirulina (IUS)using a verified negative carbon impact process, which converts clean energy into food (E2F) exploiting the resources of the adjacent area geothermal system.
Icelandic Ultra Spirulina uses only 0.0001% of the earth and relies on the 0.015% of the water used in conventional production of beef, as highlighted in a recent publication by the University of Cambridge. Credits purchased by the Nissan Formula E Team will contribute to food enrichment programs VAXA’s Impact Nutrition ACTION in developing countries such as Africa, Asia and South America, collaborating with NGOs recognized for their commitment to reduce the number of those living with nutritional deficiencies important.
Nissan Formula E team: zero impact goal
This revolutionary project aims to save more than 100 million tons of CO2e over the next 15 years, offering at the same time appropriate nutrition to those who need it most. This reinforces Nissan’s commitment to carbon neutrality and zero-emission vehicles by 2050 and its Ambition 2030 strategy, with a mix of electrification of the Nissan and INFINITI brands which is expected to increase to over 55% globally by the end of the decade, while creating a global economy that supports sustainable solutions for all.

Their work goes beyond sustainability, as their programs aim to fill the gap of nutritional deficiencies compared to those living in developing countries. This marks another big step forward towards carbon neutrality goals of the Nissan Formula E Team.
