Nissan unveiled its new Nissan Ariya Single Seater concept, a project to explore, develop and demonstrate how the production engine of the new all-electric Nissan Ariya crossover could be used in a racing car chassis.
The concept was unveiled at the event Nissan Futures by Alfonso Albaisa, Senior Vice President of Global Design at Nissan, and Juan Manuel Hoyos, General Manager of Nissan’s Global Marketing Division.
“We are delighted to introduce the Nissan Ariya Monoposto Concept at our Nissan Futures event”, Hoyos has affermato. “At Nissan, we dare to do what others don’t. With this concept, we want to show the potential of Ariya’s engine in a racing-inspired concept car that not only hints at the design and style of the crossover that inspired it, but also demonstrates a new and efficient language for high-performance electric vehicles. . Acting as a test bed for future technological evolution, this project helps bring the excitement of the track to the road and also demonstrates Nissan’s expertise in transferring knowledge and technology from the track to the road. ”
The Ariya Single Seater Concept was created to demonstrate what a future style of high-performance electrified vehicles could look like for Nissan. However, it is unlikely that a car as presented will ever be put up for sale.
Nissan Ariya Single Seater, the design is inspired by the crossover in production
The design cues for the new 100% Nissan Ariya crossover can be seen in the Ariya Single Seater Concept. At the front of the vehicle is the illuminated “V-motion” grille, characteristic of the design language of today’s Nissan crossovers. In the side view, inspiration was taken from Ariya’s fluid and aerodynamic surfaces, exaggerate to the maximum in carbon fiber. Overall, the Nissan Ariya Single Seater Concept describes a shape that, like the Ariya, appears to have been “molded from the air itself”.
Even the participation of Nissan all’Abb FIA Formula E World Championship played a key role in inspiring the Nissan Ariya Single Seater Concept. Nissan is competing in the electric single-seater world championship to bring the excitement and fun of zero-emission electric vehicles to a global audience and to be at the forefront of electric vehicle research and design.
“Nissan is competing in Formula E not only to race on the track, but also to support the development of customer-engaging electric vehicles,” said Tommaso Volpe, Global Director of Nissan Motorsport. “Our EV programs feed into our Formula E program and vice versa, enabling the transfer of technology from road to track and from track to road. The Nissan Ariya Single Seater Concept explores the combination of Ariya’s all-electric powertrain, dual engines and revolutionary all-wheel drive system with a single-seater racing chassis – a powerful demonstration of just how exciting electric vehicles are. “
