NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series: Quantum leap in performance and new era for neural rendering

NVIDIA today unveils the new GeForce RTX 40 series of GPUs, designed to deliver unique and revolutionary performance to gamers and creators

On the occasion of the GTC conference, in Santa Clara today NVIDIA presented the first GPU to the world based on the new architecture NVIDIA Ada Lovelacethe cards of the series RTX 40 represent a huge generational leap in terms of performance and efficiency and mark the beginning of a new era of real-time ray tracing and neural rendering, which uses artificial intelligence to generate pixels.

The era of RTX ray tracing and neural rendering is in full growth and revolutionizing the industry, our new Ada Lovelace architecture represents an evolution that takes everything to the next level

he has declared Jensen Huang, founder e CEO from NVIDIA, which he then continued.

Ada offers a quantum leap in performance for gamers and paves the way for creators of fully simulated worlds. With up to four times the performance of the previous generation, Ada sets a new standard for the industry.

DLSS 3 is also announced

Jensen Huang also announced NVIDIA DLSS 3. The next-gen revolution in neural graphics technology Deep Learning Super Sampling company for games and creative applications. The technology, based on artificial intelligence, is capable of generating entire frames for increased game speed. It can overcome the limitations of CPU performance in games by allowing the GPU to generate entire frames absolutely independently.

Additionally, the RTX 40 Series GPUs feature a serie from new technological innovations, among which:

  • Streaming multiprocessors with up to 83 teraflops shader power, over 2 times the previous generation.
  • RT Cores of the third generation with up to 191 effective teraflops of ray-tracing, 2.8 times higher than the previous generation.
  • 4th Generation Tensor Core with up to 1.32 petaflop Tensor – 5x over the previous generation using FP8 acceleration
  • Shader Execution Reordering (SER) which improves execution efficiency by instantly reprogramming shading workloads to make better use of GPU resources. A significant innovation as was the out-of-order execution for the CPUs, SER improves ray tracing performance by up to three times and game frame rates by up to 25%.
  • The Ada Optical Flow Acceleratorwith twice as fast performance, it allows DLSS 3 to predict motion in a scene, allowing the neural network to increase the frame rate while keeping the image quality unchanged.
  • Architectural improvementsCombined with custom TSMC 4N process technology, they achieve up to two times the leap in energy efficiency.
  • NVIDIA Dual Encoders (NVENC) they cut export times by up to half and offer AV1 support. NVENC AV1 encoding has been adopted by OBS, Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve, Discord and many others.

New Ray-Tracing technology

For decades, the rendering of scene ray-tracing with physically correct lighting in real time was considered the Holy Grail of the graphics. At the same time, the geometric complexity of environments and objects continued to grow, as games and 3D graphics strove to provide the most accurate representations of the real world.

During the presentation of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX Series 40 this was also discussed. Achieving physically accurate graphics requires enormous computing power. Modern ray-traced games, such as Cyberpunk 2077they perform over 600 ray-tracing calculations for each pixel only to determine the illumination: an increase of 16 volte compared to the first ray-traced games introduced four years ago.

The new third generation RT Cores have been enhanced to offer the double the yield quality beams and include two major new hardware units. A Opacity Micromap Engine, which accelerates ray-tracing of alpha-test geometry by twice and a Micro-Mesh Engine, which generates micro-meshes instantly to ensure additional geometry. The Micro-Mesh Engine offers the benefits of greater geometric complexity without the traditional performance and storage costs of complex geometries.

Portal è RTX ON!

Remix RTX was used by NVIDIA Lightspeed Studios to reimagine the iconic video game Portal by Valve, considered one of the best video games of all time. Advanced graphics features such as the ray-tracing completo and the DLSS 3 give the game an extraordinarily new look and feel.

Portal con RTX will be released as downloadable content official e free for the classic platformer with RTX graphics a November, just in time for the Portal’s 15th anniversary.

GeForce RTX 4090 and 4080: The new latest generation GPUs

The RTX 4090 and the GPU of game fastest in the world with truly amazing power, acoustics and temperature characteristics. In full ray-traced games, the RTX 4090 con DLSS 3 is up to 4 times faster than the RTX 3090 Ti con DLSS 2. It is also up to 2x faster in current games, while maintaining the same power consumption as 450W. It has 76 billion transistors16,384 CUDA cores and 24 GB of Micron memory GDDR6X at high speed, and consistently delivers over 100 frames per second in resolution games 4K. The RTX 4090 will be available from 12 October starting at $ 1,599.

The company also announced the RTX 4080, available in two configurations. The 16GB RTX 4080 has 9,728 CUDA cores and 16GB of high-speed Micron GDDR6X memory, and is twice as fast in GeForce games. RTX 3080 Ti and more powerful than GeForce RTX 3090 Ti. The RTX 4080 12GB ha 7.680 CUDA core and 12GB of memory Micron GDDR6X and is faster than the previous generation flagship GPU.
