At an event in China, Xiaomi made the official announcement of its top-of-the-range smartphones Xiaomi 12 e 12 Pro. The company unveiled the smartphones along with the MIUI 13 operating system, and I’m alone: there are so many new things to come. Including the smartwatch Xiaomi Watch S1.
The official announcement of Xiaomi 12 and 12 Pro
Xiaomi has organized an official event to announce its new smartphones in China. Devices that, however, will arrive on the whole international market in 2022. The company started by talking about the MIUI 13 operating system, based on Android 12.
But the interface of Xiaomi devices (and also Redmi and POCO) is particularly accurate, with the company having spent several minutes of presentation explaining how dal font ai widget, the whole system is optimized for the group’s smartphones and tablets.
From the Chinese stage we also witnessed the launch of MIUI Next, which a bit like Harmony OS wants to allow you to manage all the gadgets of the Xiaomi ecosystem, including smartwatches and bands (in addition to the many accessories and smart appliances). Indeed the company then showed smart speakers, TVs, monitors and keys for streaming that take advantage of these functions (but which perhaps we will not see in Europe, at least not immediately).
The official announcement of Xiaomi 12
Xiaomi first announced the standard model, Xiaomi 12. Of which we already knew many details, which emerged in the last hours. As announced by the Chinese stage, it will have a screen AMOLED from 6.28 with update frequency a 120Hz. The resolution will be from 2400 x 1080, with brightness from 1100 nit e colori a 12-bit. It will be protected by the resistant Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. On the back, vegan leather in four colors.
The processor will be a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, one of the very first devices to have it (Motorola beat Xiaomi in China, but perhaps Xiaomi 12 could be the first to arrive in Europe). The battery is 4500mAh with fast charging a 67W, wireless a 50W e reverse charging a 10W.
Xiaomi 12 will have a camera from 50MP and a telephoto from 32MP. They will use CyberFocus, which is the name the company gave to its proprietary AutoFocus. Up front we will have a 32MP selfie camera, which will use HDR to enhance the shots.
The phone will come with 5G and will cost 3,699 yuan (512,76 euro) in the 8 + 128GB version, 3,999 yuan (554,34 euro) for the 8 + 256GB and 4,399 yuan (609,79 euro) for the 12 + 256GB one. However, keep in mind that prices may rise when exiting China.
Xiaomi 12 Pro: the official announcement of the top of the range
Xiaomi then also announced the absolute top of the range: Xiaomi 12 Pro. And he immediately wanted to compare it to the iPhone 13 Pro Max, explaining how it has a larger screen from 6.73 in but a weight slightly less than 205 grams.
The display will be a E5 AMOLED LTPO second generation with a refresh rate 120Hz. The resolution will be 2K a 3200×1440 pixel (522 ppi), with brightness from 1500 nights and colors a 10-bit. Also in this case we will have the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus. The processor is always one Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but charging is faster. In fact, the 4,600mAh battery charges at 120W e wireless a 50W, sempre con reverse charging a 10W.
Xiaomi 12 Pro ha three 50MP lenses on the back: a Sony IMX707 as the main sensor and then an ultra wide and Samsung telephoto, with a 32MP sensor for selfies.
The price for the 8 + 128GB model is 4,699 yuan (651,38 euro), the 8 + 256GB 4,999 yuan (692,96 euro) and the 12 + 256GB one costs 5,399 yuan (748,41 euro). Excellent prices, but perhaps they will rise for the Italian market.
A third (and unexpected) smartphone
In addition to the two top of the range, there is another one: Xiaomi 12X. It has a lot in common with the standard model: 6.28 inch AMOLED screen, 50MP main camera, 4,500mAh battery with 67W fast charging. But it has one Snapdragon 870 as a chip. So it costs a little less. But we will hardly see it outside of China.
Xiaomi Watch S1
The company then presented the Xiaomi Watch S1 smartwatch on the Chinese stage. It really looks like a classic watch: from the round case design to the leather strap. Minimal, with elegant digital dials.
The screen AMOLED measure 1.43 inch, with two crowns on the side to manage the various functions. Which show Xiaomi’s experience in the field of sports monitoring: there are well 117 sports modes. Including the aquatic ones, since the watch resists up to 5 atmospheres of pressure.
The only real curiosity will now be figuring out if this smartwatch will receive a global launch. And what the price will be.
Finally, Xiaomi also announced the new Galaxy Buds 3, true wireless headphones that look really cool. But even in this case it remains to be understood if and when they will arrive on the Italian market. Of course, we know that Xiaomi 12 e Xiaomi 12 Pro they will arrive soon and we can’t wait to try them: the company has praised their qualities in a very convincing way.
