A few days after the release, it is confirmed that the live action of One Piece is a success. The reason? The mistakes made with Cowboy Bebop
After months of waiting, in which many have harbored doubts deriving from the very first images of the series One Piecewe can now happily confirm that the live action is a success. The transposition of the famous anime has in fact managed to beat two other Netflix giants: Stranger Things and Wednesday. The skepticism of some was motivated by previous projects, which had attempted to transpose an anime work into a series with flesh-and-blood actors, without obtaining the desired results. Yet, the new adaptation has won over the hearts of audiences and critics. But how did such success come about? It would seem that, among the reasons, there are the mistakes made in the past, especially with another review, which has not enjoyed the same success. We are talking about Cowboy Bebopthe Netflix anime released in 2021 and interrupted only after one season.
You learn by making mistakes | One Piece: a success thanks to the mistakes of Cowboy Bebop
Getting a result like this in a live action isn’t easy at all, especially if it’s a story populated by colorful and very particular characters. Yet, the transposition of One Piece worked. Now you have the total awareness that the public is at constant search for an adaptation totally faithful to the original, which didn’t exactly happen in Cowboy Bebop. Not all bad comes to hurt though; the production house Tomorrow Studios he made no secret of how much past mistakes were fundamental to One Piece’s success. This time, Netflix has been able to use the wise advice of the creator of the work, Eiichiro Oda who has been able to guarantee that kind of fidelity so dear to viewers, who are fond of his works.
The pursuit of fidelity
Marty Adelstein, executive producer of the show, said that “What we have learned is that fans expect respect for the source material“. To echo him Becky Clemenspresident of Tomorrow Studios, who said:
Everyone’s goal has become to ensure that the live-action version of the manga becomes another flagship of Oda’s legacy. People would have seen it under another genre, but they would have had the same reaction and feelings towards the narrative.
It therefore seems that the production house has finally figured out which choices to make to create successful works, inspired by the beloved Japanese anime. Who knows if this success will open the doors even more to new live action, dedicated to the best known and most appreciated plots of this type of animation and, above all, if this will lead to new seasons of One Piece. We of everything we hope so very much!
