As the highly anticipated Overwatch 2 prepares to enter the final phase of production, the game’s executive producer, Chacko Sonny, has made it known that he has resigned from Blizzard Entertainment, and will be leaving the company within a few days.
In recent weeks, a storm has hit the company that goes by the name of Activision Blizzard. After the California DFEH’s lawsuit against the company, various employees (who also held prominent roles in Activision Blizzard) decided, for different reasons, to leave the company. As for the team of Overwatch e Overwatch 2, after Jeff Kaplan’s farewell a few months ago, also the executive producer, Chacko Sonny, has decided to leave the team and the company. The news was reported by Bloomberg, first reported to Blizzard Entertainment staff and then also confirmed by a spokesperson at Activision Blizzard. Sonny will continue to work in the company until Friday of this week, after which the release will take effect. In an email also received from Bloomberg, the new co-leaders of Blizzard Jen Oneal and Mike Ybarra they defined it as a “Thoughtful leader” and they said they were grateful for the work done within the company. Sonny himself, in a note addressed to his colleagues, said that working at Blizzard was a absolute privilege and that was it one of the best experiences of his career.
Despite the news that are dotting Blizzard Entertainment and Activision Blizzard in recent weeks, an official reason for the abandonment of Chacko Sonny has not been revealed. Various Blizzard employees have reported, anonymously, that Sonny’s figure was highly respected within the company and that they were unaware of any accusation in his regards. In his Blizzard executive producing career, Sonny’s role was primarily that of coordinate and guide the Overwatch franchise and Overwatch 2 development through the various stages.
