The producer of the Pirates of the Caribbean saga confirms the work of a reboot of the series, but without Captain Sparrow on board
Pirates of the Caribbean producer Jerry Bruckheimer stated that there are plans to reboot the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. However, the manufacturer also made it clear that don't count on a return of Johnny Depp as the protagonist, Jack Sparrow. Jerry Bruckheimer also explained that doing a reboot is in a certain sense easier, since there is no need to wait for the choice of the interpreters of the main characters. Bruckheimer had already anticipated in 2022 that Depp would no longer participate in films dedicated to the Pirates of the Caribbean. The most recent film in which Johnny Depp participated was 2017. After that the actor was involved in the defamation trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard. However, despite winning his trial in the US, the actor lost a defamation case in the UK and that's why Johnny Depp has become a difficult actor to handle in Hollywood ever since.
More Pirates of the Caribbean reboot attempts
Although the Pirates of the Caribbean series has remained commercially viable, in terms of criticality it has significantly declined since the release of the first film in the saga in 2003. The only constant in the series was the presence of Johnny Depp in the role of Captain Jack Sparrow. However, ideas for new films in the franchise have been floating around for a while now. In fact, in 2020, news leaked of two films in the works. It was a sixth chapter of the saga written by Craig Mazin and Ted Elliot and a reboot led by Margot Robbie and written by Christina Hodson. In 2022, Robbie stated that the female-led reboot project had been cancelled. Bruckheimer later confirmed that the studio was prioritizing Mazin and Elliott's script.
