Preview Acer Swift 14: the small but powerful laptop

Acer at CES 2023 unveiled the new range of laptops in the Swift 14 series, today, we will tell you about him! Let’s get into the article

We have tested the new one for you Acer Swift 14compact laptop dedicated to students and not only presented at CES 2023. It represents the smallest laptop in the house, but not the least powerful for this, on the contrary, it has plenty of power, and it is also the most striking in terms of versatility.

We specify that it is a Hands-Onor a preview test, the product in question is not yet in the definitive version, which is why it has not entered the commercial production lines, take these first impressions as such, not being able to conduct in-depth specific tests. But now, the time has come to get to the heart of the article.

Design and Construction | Acer Swift 14

Acer’s Swift series needs no introduction. We all know it, and it has always been an iconic model of the Taiwanese brand. This because over the years the Swift range has conquered the segment of users looking for a high-end and medium-high-end product with excellent performance. Of interest to both students and those looking for a versatile and above all comfortable to carry product.

Minimal and sober design, which comes in various colors for all tastes. There are no particularly prominent elements. At the bottom the air expulsion vents, with Acer TwinAir dual fan structure, and dual D6 copper heat pipe.

This year the Swift 14 models rely on Intel CPUs. We have in this case models of the processor family Intel Core HX up to 13th generation to support this machine. The laptop is made entirely of aluminum, and the construction is very robust and solid, including the display panel and its hinges which boast excellent resistance to stress.

The new Swift is light, and decidedly portable, given the diagonal of the laptop. The weight is around 1.3kg, for a thickness of 14.9mm. The Touchpad is made with proprietary technology OceanGlass, and the keyboard is backlit. In addition, it has a touch display, a real convenience given the diagonal of this laptop.

The overall build quality is really excellent, it definitely deserves a high rating. Solid, sturdy, and top quality materials. The finishes are excellent.

The keyboard it is recessed in the structure, the keys are spaced correctly and ensure a fast keystroke with a short stroke, they are obviously membrane. As for the Touchpad the feedback is excellent, in every point and/or angle it captures the touch perfectly, which is not so common in the Windows laptop landscape. So a great job by Acer.

Small mention of merit, it concerns the panel Display, which has a very high brightness, and returns excellent colors. For this Acer Swift 14 we find a 14″ OLED with 2.8K 2880×1800 resolution with an update rate of ben 120Hz, to complete the picture well 500nit with 100% DCI-P3 coverage and VESA DisplayHDR True Black 500 certification, with TÜV Rheinland EyeSafe.

The edges are elegant and usual, in fact we find a 90% screen-body ratio, with side frames of 4.15mm. In the upper body we find a webcam with 1440p resolution, equipped with Acer Temporal Noise Reduction technology and Acer PurifiedVoice with AI noise reduction. The quality is really high.

Finally to continue, we find well for the ram sector 16GB of type LPDDR5, an SSD is also on board 1TB PCIe Gen 4. WiFi 6E connectivity and multiple ports such as USB-C, HDMI 2.1 and, microSD reader. In this model we have on board an i7-13700H with Iris Xe graphics.

At first glance, the laptop seems to handle the required stresses well with a good performance/consumption ratio, but obviously, these are simply impressions of first use. However, the performance is really lightning fast in daily activities and with the main Office software. The audio given by the integrated speakers is average. Battery and duration side obviously we cannot express an opinion, we limit ourselves to reporting the data that Acer has declared, or about 9.5 hours of average use.
