Games belonging to the PS3 have been spotted on the PS5 store, leading to hypothesize the increasingly imminent arrival of backwards compatibility in the new console
Having to pass to the new generations of consoles often leads to being forced to leave behind the games we have loved most, with the mere hope of seeing them again in the form of remakes. At least, in this pandemic it seems that this will not happen very soon, at least according to a report from Bloomberg which claims that Sony is continuing to produce PS4s to address the PS5 shortage (even if these reasons shave recently been denied by the Japanese company).
Instead Microsoft, armed with the Game Pass which guarantees access to a multitude of titles originating on the first Xbox and Xbox 360, has decided to permanently stop the manufacture and distribution of any type of Xbox One, to fully focus with the Xbox Series X and S. After all, the backward compatibility guaranteed by the Xbox service is one of the strong points of the console, while PS5 it does not provide any such functionality not even for the most iconic games on PS3, PS2 and PS1. However, this could change dramatically in the coming months.
Backward compatibility with PS3 games on the PS5 store
Among the most important rumors that have re-emerged in this first month of 2022, there has been for a few days the one concerning the very secret project with the code name “Spartacus”. It would reveal a rather important project from Sony, which looks to be unveiled in the spring of this year. According to the various rumors, it would be a service that would be launched to compete with Microsoft’s Game Pass, also allowing the possibility to access PS3 games in backward compatibility on PS5. And with the discovery made by several users on Twitter, the truthfulness behind these hypotheses continues to grow dramatically. On the PS5 store, a decidedly curious thing would have been noticed: the appearance of PS3 games, and with them also the option to be able to buy them.

Until now, this would never have been possible, as native PS3 games are neither playable nor purchasable on other platforms. The titles that appeared would be Dead or Alive 5, two Prince of Persia games including The Two Thrones HD and The Forgotten Sands, Bejeweled and Jak 3. And while one might surmise how some of these works would simply end up reconnecting to PlayStation Now, however, this would not apply to the last two titles. Anyway, after the appearance of a patent regarding backwards compatibility, it is inevitable that we think of a more than obvious direction that Sony would be taking for its console, and we only have to wait for any official clarifications, perhaps in the next State of Play.
